Guidelines for the use of Social media for clubs, coaches, parents and players

The ECB has put in place guidelines on the use of social media within clubs.

These have been put in place for the protection of everyone involved in cricket.

Communicating with Children Under the age of 16

When contacting children under the age of 16, you should always communicate with their parents, and not the child. There should be no exceptions to this, and this is to protect both the child and the adult.

Communicating with Children Over the age of 16
When communicating with children over the age of 16 it is accepted you may need to communicate with the child. However you must always copy the parent in. Use Group e mails (copying all parents in); don’t just communicate with one child.  This advice is to safeguard yourself as well as the child.

One way of communicating with all your team would be to set up a group e mails, group texts etc.

Always use the “blind copy” facility when sending out group texts or e mails.
 Always copy the parents in.
If you receive any e mail, text or other communication from a child that causes you concern, or appears overfamiliar, you should immediately notify the County WO.

If you have any concerns about the use of social media, it should immediately be reported to your Club Welfare Officer, the County Welfare Officer, or the ECB Safeguarding team - email safeguarding@ecb.co.uk

For more infomation on the guidelines issued please visit the ECB website

and dowload the "kitbag" pages 46-50 relate to the use of social media.
