New Structure to the District Competition for 2016

By now I am sure you have seen the attached media release, read our website story or seen social media about the future of our current district programme sent several weeks ago.

It seems it is just filtering into clubs now and a few questions are starting to be raised.  Why the change? We have a good district set up? Why move from 16 to 8?  This is giving less opportunity to play etc.  Everyone will have their own view on the subject matter and after 8 years of consulting, having meetings with clubs and parents across the County, and undertaken 3 reviews, it was time for change.

Our County is vast and what works in one part may not work in another.  Club cricket is stronger in some parts than others as are availability of venues and grounds to play on. Junior Leagues are getting stronger with the number of teams entering and also the quality of play.

There are common themes across the County:

·         Some districts have failed to field teams year on year

·         Some have very few teams making it difficult to pull teams together

·         Most districts want change

·         Lack of volunteers

·         Standard of coaching county wide differs

·         Standard of talent ID county wide differs

·         Lack of pitches

·         Lack of officials

The new programme starting in October of this year is a HUGE step forward and addresses all the issues we have had in recent years.  This is a 2 year agreement with all successful bidders (total of 8 Areas).  We will learn things along the way and will adapt when the time is right.

Rest assured, the winning bidders have excellent credentials and have gone through a formal recruitment process.  Many have been involved with and/or played through the Kent system, many are Level 3 coaches, with great experience and good links with venues, schools and clubs.
